What a specimen! Ranch Ave, Beach Haven

Pest Free Kaipātiki are looking to mobilise an army of volunteers to win the war on Moth Plant!

This pest weed is taking over Kaipātiki. It is everywhere... Found in pockets of Beach Haven, Glenfield, Chatswood and Birkenhead, it has taken root in our back yards, gone wild in commercial land and roadsides and crept into our bush reserves. If left to take hold our gardens will be overrun with it and our native birds and other fauna will gradually lose their homes and food sources.

Kaipātiki needs you, the community - residents, landlords, businesses, churches, schools - to recognise, report and remove this invasive pest weed...

  • Recognise it - if you’re a dog walker, a runner, a school student walking to school, a postie, a tradesperson or gardener - keep an eye out for Moth Plant on properties, streets, parks and reserves

  • Report it - any large infestations should be reported to info@pestfreekaipatiki.org.nz or post on our Facebook page so we can monitor spread and make sure all sites are dealt with

  • Remove it - If your property, workplace or a neighbour has Moth Plant deal with it yourself, work together with your neighbour or workmates, or organise a working bee.

  • Spread the word - talk to your neighbours, family and friends (download our A4 poster and print off some copies to share).

How to Remove Moth Plant

See our previous post for how to remove Moth Plant or download the Auckland Council brochure.

All this wet, humid weather is perfect for growing seed pods. We anticipate the pods will begin bursting their seeds in the next month. There is no time to waste - recognise, report and remove it now!
