Getting Started and Keeping on Going - Guides and Kits
If you're new to PFK or even new to volunteering, the best way to get your bearings is to come in and have a cuppa with us. Email us at volunteers@pestfreekaipatiki.org.nz to make an appointment, or come to one of our Friday morning volunteer inductions (followed by a free lunch). In addition, we have the following guides and kits available to help you as you get started and as you go along:
Joining a Working Bee
Coming to your first restoration working bee in a Kaipātiki reserve? Working alongside your neighbours and community in our beautiful native reserves is a very rewarding experience.
We want to set you up for success, so here are a few things you need to know.

Reserve Group Kit
This kit has been designed to make it easy for coordinators of Reserve Groups and working bees to run great events and support volunteers to have an enjoyable and productive experience.

Street Champion Kit
Our ecological halos are important zones of restoration activity, where we aim to have predator control activity happening at one in every three homes. Some street clusters also support one another with pest plant removal and planting on one another’s properties.
Halo Cluster Member Kit
A guide for people who have joined a street champion group by hosting a bait station or getting involved in other ecological restoration work in their neighbourhood and on their own property.
PFK Training Programme: Learn what you need to know to volunteer with confidence
The PFK Training Programme has been put together to give you confidence to work independently as a volunteer group in your local reserve, or on your property.
We plan to offer the series of four workshops at least twice per year.
Complete all four training workshops, fill up your stamp card and receive your PFK accreditation!

Health and Safety for Volunteers
We take seriously the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone involved in ecological restoration with PFK. If you have experienced any kind of accident, incident or near miss, we want to know about it so that we can improve processes, PPE and education to minimise or remove the risk of such incidents happening again.
Knowing the risks you might encounter during your activities and taking steps to reduce those risks is the best way to keep yourself and others safe. Our Health and Safety page is designed as a resource for volunteers to find our health and safety information all in one place.
Go to our Health and Safety FAQ for volunteers to learn how to keep yourself safe.
If you've had an accident, incident or near miss, please report it to us.
